Path to medicine
I got a business degree right out of high school. Then my husband and I lost a daughter, my nurses were amazing --so sweet and caring to her. I all of a sudden decided that’s what I wanted to do so went into nursing school. I worked 10 years as an ER RN and then went back to school to be NP. I love it!!
I like to watch my kids play sports. I run. Or the family and I ride bikes or horses.
I grew up in Southwest Iowa in a small town of 1500. My family owns a large cattle feedlot and we all rodeo a lot. I love being outside! If cold and rainy I love just being home drinking coffee and watching movies.
Path to medicine
My family always encouraged me to go into to medicine and I always felt like nursing was a good fit .
I grew up in Newton and have lived in Iowa most of my life but I also lived in West Virginia and Indiana.
I like to do things outdoors, and spend time with my friends and family
I received my Bachelor of Science degree in Integrative Physiology from the University of Iowa (go Hawks!). In my undergraduate years, work experiences (Child Life Assistant, CNA, Research Assistant) as well as international medical experiences (Nicaragua, Romania, and China) further strengthened my desire to become a PA-C. I then continued as a Hawkeye in Iowa City, and got my Master of Science degree in Physician Assistant Studies from the University of Iowa.
After graduation, I moved to Minneapolis where I worked in ENT (inpatient, outpatient, and first-assist surgical responsibilities) and then as a Pediatric Hospitalist.
I am very excited to have recently moved back to my home state of Iowa, and can't wait to join the Mercy ED team!
Running, biking, yoga, reading, and a good cup of coffee
I was born and raised in Clarion, IA -- a small community located 90 miles north of Des Moines.
Path to medicine:
I was a firefighter/ paramedic then a few years later I became a nurse. When I was younger my dad who died when I was age 11 said I was going to be a doctor. I said "oh no I'm not doing that because I want to be an engineer." Then after being a paramedic and nurse I went back to practitioner school and "bam!" Here I am. I am a retired firefighter. I worked for 23 years in Oklahoma City.
I'm learning to fly airplanes and I am a glutton for punishment by going back to school again for my doctorate.
